Blueberry Lemon Smash

Blueberry Lemon Smash

June 18, 2020

A smash starts out very sour and slowly becomes less so as time goes on. Full of bright lemon and minty fresh, all nicely tied together with a  little hug of blueberry. Refreshing and peppy.

You can substitute the mint in this recipe for some fresh sage(eight to ten leaves should do). And if this Shrubbie is too sour you can top off the drink with a few ounces of sparkling(my recommendation) or still water.

To put it simply this Shrubbie is simply smashing.

Blueberry Lemon Smash

Ready in 3 minutes

Serves 1 drink

  • 2 oz Whiskey(I used Rye)
  • .5 oz Fresh Squeezed Lemon Juice
  • 1 oz Blueberry Lemon Shrub
  • 10 Mint Leaves

  1. Muddle the mint leaves in a shaker, add remaining  ingredients and shake on ice until chilled. Strain into highball glass over ice and gently stir.
  2. Garnish with lemon zest, or fresh mint leaf, or a few blackberries.

Since this is such a pungent drink the dilution from the ice really helps the drinkablility. I recommend smaller ice or even crushed ice if you’ve got it handy.

If chewing on little pieces of mint while you drink doesn't bother you then feel free to skip the straining recommendation in the preparation portion of the recipe.
