The Sidecar

The Sidecar is an old cocktail that has withstood the test of time, because, well; it’s delicious! This can be made with any brand of cognac, brandy, or even bourbon. We went with the more traditional route and used cognac. 

The Sidecar Shrubbie didn’t take much tinkering with, the only real difference was instead of using equal parts lemon juice and Triple Sec, we upped the Triple Sec ratio slightly to counterbalance the acidity from the Blueberry Lemon shrub. The cognac has a really nice tummy warming effect that is perfect for the shift into cooler weather. It still has some of the essences of a summer drink and realistically can be enjoyed year round!

I should note that the differences in cognacs from brand to brand vary, and you may have to alter your ratios slightly based on what you have available. I also think that the Sidecar Shrubbie could be delicious by leaving all ingredient quantities the same except for the cognac, increasing it to 2 oz. Ready in 3 minutes

Serves 1 drink


  • 1 ½ Oz Cognac
  • 1 Oz Orange Liqueur(Triple Sec or Cointreau)
  • .75 Oz Lemon Juice
  • .5 Oz Blueberry Lemon Shrub
  • Orange Peel Garnish
  • Sugar Rim(Optional)


  1. Add all ingredients into a cocktail shaker with ice.
  2. Shake well.
  3. Strain into the desired glass.
  4. Garnish(sugar rim technique guide)
  5. Examine your hardwork and revel in how amazing you are. Heck, snap a shot or two and post online(tags are always appreciated!)
