BRAD FIERRO

since he was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at the age of 7, brad’s doctors told him to simply eat what he wanted and cover it with insulin, ignoring the impact that food has on blood sugar control. after years of hospitalizations and unstable glucose levels, his wife was forced to call 9-1-1 when she woke up at night to find him unresponsive. this was the final straw for brad; he completely changed his diet, discovering ferments in the process. after seeing the effects fermented foods had on his health, coupled with his years of kitchen experience, he felt compelled to share his passion with the world.


ELISE THORP, NTP

elise's nutrition background helped provide answers to the how and why of fermentation.  Understanding that many people are lacking healthy gut bacteria, and the impact that has on overall health, she felt pulled to help provide a more enjoyable solution than popping a probiotic capsule. thus, civil ferments was born, and we’ve been trying our hardest to make environmentally friendly, community-supporting, and healthy decisions ever since.


ALLIE THORP, NTP

from an early age allie knew she wanted to follow in her father’s footsteps to become a doctor; she was passionate about healing and the human body. but as she studied human biology in college and went down the pre-med track, her heart wasn’t in it. something felt incomplete about what she was learning. the stars aligned for her when she discovered the missing pieces in a holistic nutrition program–diet and gut health. she was inspired to center her life around these two pillars of health. her passion for nutrient-dense food, and her enthusiasm to share it with others led her to farming and civil ferments.
